If you decide so, you will need to find a reliable hosting provider. Lucky for you, your search has finished! SiteGround has probably the best hosting for small businesses at the moment and we cannot recommend it enough.

Follow our guide how to start a WordPress blog with SiteGround and your blog will be ready in 8 easy steps.

How To Start A WordPress Blog With SiteGround In 8 Steps

#1 WHY SITEGROUND?

Five years ago when I started blogging, I had no idea what I am doing. The resources were still pretty limited and I followed the advice I was able to find around the web. I read somewhere it was the best to start a self-hosted blog, so I did (even though I did not really know why).

Unfortunately, I have put the price over quality and chose iPage for my first host. After almost 2 years of constant problems with server, downtimes and bad customer service, we decided to switch to SiteGround.

Our life has been wonderful ever since and we never looked back!

SiteGround has proven as:

  • affordable
  • user-friendly
  • secure
  • fast hosting provider
  • very reliable!
  • plus you get a free SSL certificate

Being a user of SiteGround is fantastic! We have zero problems, and even when we find something we need help with, their customer service is equally great.

They say they have 24/7 customer service – but honestly, you will not need them. How great is that? Even more, in the past three years, we had maybe one or two downtimes. They were so short and unimportant we do not even remember.

#2 CHOOSE A RIGHT PLAN

SiteGround has several different hosting platforms for different needs and company sizes. If you are a small business and (or) just starting out, their shared web hosting will be more than enough.

For bigger companies or higher performance needs, we recommend cloud or enterprise hosting.

#3 CHOOSE A DOMAIN

Before you commit yourself, think about the domain you wish to buy.

You can do it directly through SiteGround (recommended) or buy them externally through sites like GoDaddy.

The best domains are short, easy to remember and type. Don't try to play smart - be simple.Click To Tweet

5 tips for choosing a domain name:

  1. always go for .com domain – other domains are ok, but .com is excellent (.net or .org can be good alternatives)
  2. if .com domain is taken, you do not want to register the same .net domain – you will have direct competition and can be seen as a copycat
  3. domains should be as short as possible (up to 3 or 4 words)
  4. easy to remember and easy to type
  5. check if the same names are available on social sites like Facebook, Pinterest, Instagram, …

Check if the domain is available and if it is – then go for it!

Always go for .com domain. Other domains are ok, but .com is excellent!Click To Tweet

#4 PAY FOR HOSTING AND EXTRAS

After choosing your hosting plan, you can decide where would you like your server to be located. They have 5 options: London, Amsterdam, Milano, Singapore and Chicago (hint: choose the one closest to your target audience for the best experience).

You can also choose if you wish to buy hosting for 12, 24 or 36 months. If you are sure you will be using the hosting for a longer period of time – buy 36 months if you can. You will get 50% off for the whole period. Once you will be extending the service, the price will be much higher!

We also recommend adding the domain privacy so not everybody can find out your personal details and address.

Once you have chosen the desired services, SiteGround will ask you to put in your personal details, create an account and choose a method of payment. One more click and – voila!

#5 START SET UP WIZZARD AND INSTALL WORDPRESS

Installing a WordPress is super simple and you can definitely do it yourself. SiteGround offers 1 click install and it is not a biggie at all.

Login to your SiteGround account you created in the previous step.

Click on “my accounts” and choose “Go to cPanel” as shown below.

#6 PICK A THEME

If you are serious about blogging, you will want to have a serious theme too.

There are tons of different WordPress themes, but we honestly recommend Divi and Extra by Elegant Themes. They are both responsible, fast, totally customizable and they look great.

Divi and Extra by Elegant Themes are awesome and fully customizable themes for you blog.Click To Tweet

Extra is a bit more bloggers friendly as you can choose category layouts (if you are into that), but both Divi and Extra are awesome for bloggers and small businesses. You can create pretty much any site you wish.

They also include Divi builder, the best visual builder and the only one you will ever need.

#7 HAVE FUN

Blogging can be stressful and tiring if you are trying to do it all.

Stop trying to be perfect and be real.

You do not need to have 8 social media accounts and write 74 posts a week. Find your own schedule and social media you and your audience both like.

Don’t get caught in “gotta do it all” mindset – you will forget why you start all of this.

And that’s to HAVE FUN.

#8 EARN SOME BUCKS

So you started blogging and you could definitely earn some bucks from it.

If you are in love with SiteGround as we are, the easiest way how to do it is to become a SiteGround Affiliate.

For each sale you make, you will get at least 40 EUR and you can easily pay off a year value of hosting in just a few clicks! How cool is that?!
